The National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) empowers special education teachers, advocates, and professionals with practical training, trusted resources, and meaningful connections - supporting those who make a difference in the lives of students with diverse learning needs.

It’s Friday! Thank you for being incredible - you deserve a break!

❤️ For the first time EVER we’re hosting a Thank You Holiday Event! To celebrate, we’re giving YOU our Burnout Survival Guide and Early Access to the event - learn more below!

We’ve All Been There (And You Deserve Better Support)

You pour your heart into writing thorough IEP goals, stacking every accommodation, lining up the perfect meeting, and then the whole plan unravels the moment a parent cancels five minutes before. This work is real, unpredictable, and heavier than anyone outside special education ever sees.

That’s why over 4,000 special education professionals rely on NASET’s community for resources, expert guidance, and steady support. When the day pulls the rug out from under you, you shouldn’t have to navigate it alone.

  • 🥰 You give everything to special education, and deserve to be celebrated!
For the first time ever, NASET is launching our “Thank You For Everything You Do” Holiday Event - created to support the teachers, professionals, and families who show up for exceptional students every single day.

When you join the Early Access list today, you’ll immediately receive our Burnout Survival Guide and unlock exclusive early access to next week’s event before it becomes public.

Important: Early Access is open now and closes Sunday, November 23.
Once the window closes, the early-access-only bonuses disappear. Join the list today!

  • Discipline issues in special education are never simple - and the consequences are real.
This final webinar of the year breaks down what educators, schools, and families must understand when disability and discipline intersect, and how to protect student rights while staying legally compliant.

Featuring Legal Services NYC, this is the conversation every special educator should hear.

POLICY & FUNDING DEVELOPMENTS
The U.S. Department of Education has begun a significant reorganization, transferring several offices to other federal agencies as part of a wider restructuring effort. While some divisions have been reassigned, the Office of Special Education Programs will remain in place. Education groups warn that a fragmented transition plan could harm students with disabilities, and new analysis discusses the risks to special education student rights with the changes. Relatedly, special education teacher retention remains an urgent concern: a Brookings Institution report calls for targeted pay incentives and mentoring to stem rising special education attrition.

OVERSIGHT & ACCOUNTABILITY
A 74 Million investigation highlights concerns about educational equity, particularly for students of color who were historically denied dyslexia screenings and appropriate supports. Separately, the Education Department is expanding interagency program management to improve oversight of educational technology and data systems.

RESEARCH & HEALTH ADVANCES
A CDC update reiterates that vaccines do not cause autism, reaffirming long-standing scientific consensus after reviewing multiple decades of data. NIH scientists released findings on the effects of repeated head trauma in young athletes, noting early brain changes linked to injury patterns. At UC Davis, researchers launched a major study on language development in children with Down syndrome, aiming to improve early intervention outcomes.

ACCESSIBILITY & COMMUNITY
A community safety initiative is also growing, as a tracking program helps locate missing individuals with cognitive disabilities. Disability rights advocate and author Alice Wong has died at age 51. Founder of the Disability Visibility Project, Wong was known for amplifying disabled voices and advancing accessibility through storytelling and policy advocacy.
