POLICY & FUNDING UPDATES A new federal order has sparked concerns about forced institutionalization of people with disabilities. The Senate supports all parts of IDEA in education research and funding bill. The Education Department issued a flexibility waiver for ESEA requirements and proposed additional AI-related priorities for grant submissions. The department is also promoting special education school choice initiatives. States are weighing big decisions on federal school vouchers as public school enrollment declines. Medicaid cuts could significantly impact special education funding, creating new budget pressures for schools. Meanwhile, educators are exploring solutions to persistent special educator shortages.
