The National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) empowers special education teachers, advocates, and professionals with practical training, trusted resources, and meaningful connections - supporting those who make a difference in the lives of students with diverse learning needs.

Happy Friday! We hope you take a well deserved break - here's the news you may have missed!

A new report found that only half of teacher preparation programs now teach the science of reading, while new national data show reading and math scores rising for younger kids while stalling for teens. Math teachers are also seeing a chance to boost students' reading skills inside their own classrooms and Chalkbeat dug into the mystery behind girls' test scores and COVID learning loss.

On the research front, a new national poll found most K-12 teachers believe AI's impact on education will eclipse the internet or computers. A JAMA Psychiatry study found the genetic risk profile of people diagnosed with autism and ADHD has shifted as diagnosis rates have increased, Mass General Brigham researchers reported that people with traumatic brain injury have a higher risk of brain cancer than the general population, and the Washington Post examined the latest debate in the autism community over whether "spelling to communicate" is effective therapy or unproven facilitated communication.

Finally, a House committee advanced a fiscal year 2027 plan to cut the Education Department by 10% as districts brace for the unexpected. The federal government also faces a new lawsuit over the delay of disability accessibility rules.
