POLICY & FEDERAL DEVELOPMENTS The Education Department may offload special education soon, with advocates warning of serious consequences for students. Social Security is eyeing SSI reforms that could affect disability benefits. A major lawsuit examines the fight to stay home and how it could upend disability care, challenging institutional placement practices.
LITERACY & READING INSTRUCTION One reading skill might be responsible for many older students' academic struggles. A new report examines older readers and literacy academic standards, revealing gaps in age-appropriate instruction. Childhood reading became Oklahoma's top policy focus, driving statewide reforms. Michigan lawmakers are taking aim at the state's K-12 literacy crisis, proposing sweeping changes.
TEACHER WORKFORCE & STUDENT BEHAVIOR Analysis reveals what teacher turnover looked like during COVID-19, with lasting implications for staffing. Teachers say student behavior has made the job almost impossible, reaching crisis levels in many schools. One school is using AI to address student behavior problems, employing technology for intervention.
INCLUSIVE EDUCATION PRACTICES Research shows that shaping schools to fit students with disabilities leads to academic gains, validating inclusive design principles.
RESEARCH & HEALTH INSIGHTS A randomized controlled trial examined the effectiveness of coping interventions on mental well-being in parents of preschool children with special needs. Research explores frameworks of childhood ADHD, reviewing inhibitory control and reward systems. Scientists studied dynamic behavioral and neural correlates of letter-speech sound learning in typical and dyslexic readers.
